Happy February, everyone!
We are in the middle of a thaw with mud, more mud, and a little of that crunchy leftover dirty snow. It's awesome. I'm either in the studio, with the dogs, stuffing my face with leftover valentine's chocolates, or I'm going to the bank with paint on my nose. I stayed up all night to create this piece, called "Conquer".
“Conquer”, mixed media on canvas, 19x24 inches, $175. Prints also available at a variety of price points. A little girl snoozes in her intensely colored hiding place, a butterfly rests on her toe, this painting investigates the so-called fragility of the feminine. You can buy it, if you want.
This winter has been all about CLASSES. I've fallen in love with the little movie theater in Hamburg, Pa, and all of the people of the Our Town Foundation that keep the theater alive. Located on South Fourth St, the theater has turned out to be the PERFECT venue for "Artists Around The World" (my art history class for ages 4-9), "Art Spa" (my BYOB open studio for adults) AND an Art Co-op for homeschooled teens. Love it! Love it! Love it!
Here is a little peak into "Artists Around The World"...Kids explore the expression of a famous artist, while parents enjoy a coffee break next door. Kids listen to music and try a snack from the artist's country, and make an art project in that artist's style.
Do you know the artist Paul Gauguin? He was one of our featured artists, too, at "Artists Around The World." While he lived in Paris some time, he is famous for his travels to Tahiti, and the paintings that he did there. To get the Tahiti experience, we listened to Polynesian music, of course, and I think the kids were quite impressed when we smashed open a coconut with a hammer! Also, Gauguin was Vincent Van Gogh's roommate, and there are rumors about what Gauguin had to do with Van Gogh famously losing an ear. Gauguin...not a role model. Seriously. Whoa.
I am teaching "Artists Around The World" every Saturday morning at 9 am! Here are some more details about current classes...
*The flyer lists this saturday as the last "Artists Around The World" but actually, I just received the green light to go ahead and keep teaching every Saturday morning. For more details, call the number above or email me at email@example.com
What kind of classes should I invent for Spring? Spring IS coming, right? I am thinking about a Vision Board class, and a Sculpey class...I LOVE SCULPEY!!!
Love and light,
